FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Can the pictures be used in court?

The quick answer is yes. Youview consults with the Home Office and ACPO to make certain that Picsure meets all the requirements laid out for digital images. The current specification for image management focuses on CCTV but we have implemented Picsure to meet the relevant requirements given the slightly different technical focus. We are committed to ensuring that our processing meets all such requirements in the future.

If you need an image for court, simply contact us and we'll send a new copy of the original submission for you to use in court. The copy has a secure chain of evidence utilising date and time stamps, proving the image has not been tampered with after reaching the Picsure system.

How can we be sure that someone who works at Youview won't release the photos into the public domain?

All Youview staff are police checked before they start work. The Picsure databases and systems are all password controlled and audit trails of any access are kept. Finally, only selected members of staff, kept to an absolute minimum, can access the Picsure systems and databases.

Who owns the data?

All data is owned by you and the person who sent you the image. It is hosted on Youview servers so you don't have to invest in hardware thus minimising your investment. However, if this is a concern we can arrange to have the application put on your own servers.

What about Data Protection?

Youview received the following guidance from the Information Commissioner's Office.

Youview Limited is regarded as a Data Processor and as such has no consumer related compliance responsibilities.

Youview's customers are regarded as Data Controllers and have the following responsibilities; when promoting Picsure notification must be given to the public that photographs submitted can be used by any Government Agency and that the individual's mobile phone number may be used to contact them with reference to the photograph.

Members of the public are covered by Section 36 of the Data Protection Act 1998, they can photograph individuals for crime prevention purposes and send that photo to the authorities without incurring any Data Protection responsibilities; Section 36 of the act covers organisations in the same way.

How much does it cost?

Less than you might think. We provide Picsure as a service for a monthly fee, so there are no initial setup charges to worry about. In addition, we don't try to lock you into a long contract period. You can terminate the service with just one months notice. However, we are confident that you won't want to do that because we are committed to grow the service to meet your requirements by regularly rolling out new capabilities that our customers ask for, all within the original monthly service fee.
